New SFP modules

Luminex is expanding its range of SFP modules to provide solid solutions for interconnecting with GigaCore O26-I. All modules listed below are MSA compliant and TAA approved.

25Gbps fiber

LU 90 01200 25GBase-LR SMF

The LU 90 01200 is a single-mode fiber SFP module capable of 25Gbps per second.
It uses an LC connector and can therefore be used with 'standard' SMF LC-LC patch cables like we know from the 10G SMF Luminex modules.

LU 90 01203 25GBase-SR MMF

The LU 90 01203 is a multi-mode fiber SFP module capable of 25Gbps per second.
It uses an LC connector and can therefore be used with 'standard' MMF LC-LC patch cables like we know from the 10G MMF Luminex modules.

40Gbps fiber

LU 90 01201 40GBase-LR4 SMF

The LU 90 01201 is a single-mode fiber SFP module capable of 40Gbps per second.
It uses an LC connector and can therefore be used with 'standard' SMF LC-LC patch cables like we know from the 10G SMF Luminex modules.
40G modules are essentially 4x 10Gbps modules combined in 1 transceiver. This means that 4 signals are carried between the modules in each direction.
The LU 90 01201 achieves this with CWDM4 (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) which means that on 1 fiber strand, 4 different wavelengths are transmitted. This way only 2 fiber strands are needed (1x RX, 1x TX) for interconnecting 2 40GBase-LR4 modules.
The downside is that this module cannot be used to breakout / fanout a 40G SFP port into 4x 10Gbps.

LU 90 01204 40GBase-SR4 MMF

The LU 90 01204 is a multi-mode fiber SFP module capable of 40Gbps per second.
It uses an MTP/MPO-12 connector and can therefore NOT be used with 'standard' SMF LC-LC patch cables like we know from other Luminex fiber modules.
40G modules are essentially 4x 10Gbps modules combined in 1 transceiver. This means that 4 signals are carried between the modules in each direction, 8 total.
The LU 90 01203 achieves this by using 8 different fiber strands in total: 4x TX and 4x RX. These are combined into 1 MPO-12 UPC connector (Multi-Fiber Push-On Ultra Physical Contact). These are typically color-coded in blue or magenta.
The benefit of this method is that this module can be used to breakout / fanout a 40G SFP port into 4x 10Gbps.

2x LU 90 01204 SFP modules can be interconnected using a female-to-female (unpinned) MTP®/MPO Type B Cable (Cross over).

DAC (Direct attach copper) cables

Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables are passive cables with a SFP module on each end. They offer robust connections over a short distance. Since this is a passive solution, it is very cost-effective and therefore ideal for interconnections within 1 rack.

DAC cables do not have DDM (Digital Diagnostics Monitoring), which means that information like temperature or signal strength is not available. Because of the simplicity of DAC cables, this is not an issue.
